CSconnected represents and promotes the interests of the Compound Semiconductor (CS) Cluster in South Wales. Since 2017 we have worked with the growing community of high-tech companies and research & innovation institutions to support the continuing growth of our sector. 

CSconnected undertakes a wide range of activities to help the sector address challenges and increase its visibility to potential employees and to attract new collaboration opportunities alike. The Welsh cluster leverages over 40 years of research and manufacturing in semiconductors and is the first to focus on compound semiconductors which are the underlying technology to enable added functionality in communications, AI, robotics, electrification, advanced medical devices, and consumer electronics. 

Job Summary

The Business Development Manager is responsible for building on existing and identifying new/innovative income streams for to support future organisational and cluster growth plans. The initial high priority task is the implementation of a supply chain outreach program whereby local suppliers to the CS Cluster can apply for grants to increase their capacity and capabilities.

THE ROLE: 

Key Responsibilities 

  • As the Business Development Manager, you will be expected to quickly familiarize yourself with the  CS Cluster, establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including:
    • Multinational and SME companies.
    • Academic and applied research institutes.
    • Regional and national government bodies
  • The BD manager will also:
    • Perform stakeholder mapping to identify needs of partners and other stakeholders.
    • Establish/re-establish Business Opportunities panel to maintain strong BD links with cluster partners.
    • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications team to help develop comms plans.
    • Represent CSconnected at events, shows and conferences (locally and internationally)
  • CSconnected has been awarded funding to support the local CS supply chain. This is about ensuring that when key members of the cluster expand, the local supply chain is also able to meet the needs for higher volumes or new components, leveraging the economic growth in the region. Implementation of CS supply chain support program will involve the following activities:
    • Work with cluster partners to identify opportunities within their supply chains.
    • Determine how best to reach out to regional supply chain organisations and support their expansion.
    • Determine the legal framework and operational procedures whereby companies can apply for and be awarded grant assistance.
    • Create the model and framework for assessing the merits of competing applications and conducting due diligence before and after grant awards are made.
    • Report on implementation progress and status.
    • Identify potential case studies which can be used to promote the impact of the initiative.
  • CSconnected is currently well funded, largely from public sources with a vested interested in the promotion and growth of the CS cluster. To ensure future expansion and continuity of activities, the BD manager will be expected to help develop new initiatives to fund these activities, creating as sustainable long-term business model:
    • Identify and understand the most important needs of the key stakeholders.
    • Consider how supporting activities can be funded through both public and private sources.
    • Work within the management team to develop and implement these initiatives

KEY PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES: 

Knowledge/experience/skills 

  • Graduate level education, ideally in business related discipline
  • Demonstrable experience in project management involving multiple parties with demonstratable successful delivery of project outcomes.
  • Awareness of semiconductor manufacturing and end market applications would be highly desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Interpersonal and networking skills, comfortable dealing with senior members of partner/member organisations.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful and focused on delivery and results
  • Excellent organisational and team working skills
  • Ability to work under pressure/meet tight deadlines
