Celebrating Team STEALTH at the STEM Racing National Finals 2026

08th Ebrill 2026

A huge congratulations to Team STEALTH from St John’s College, Cardiff, on their outstanding performance at the STEM Racing UK National Finals 2026. Their journey to the national stage is a testament to their enthusiasm, teamwork, and dedication, qualities that are an asset to the future of engineering here in Wales.

Following an exceptional showing at the regional finals, where they secured both the Fastest Car and Best Engineer awards, Team STEALTH progressed to compete against the very best student teams from across the UK. At the national finals, they achieved an impressive overall ranking and received highly positive feedback from judges, particularly for the quality of their engineering and design work. Their success reflects not only technical skill but also a strong grasp of the collaborative and iterative processes that define modern engineering.

We are proud to have supported such a talented group of students by sponsoring their team through the competition. Their commitment reinforces the importance of nurturing young talent through hands-on, real-world experiences, something our Skills Manager Brandon Jones witnessed when he went to cheer them on at both the regional and final races.

It was also inspiring to see another team succeed from St John’s College, team Silver Racing, achieved recognition at the competition with the support of our cluster partner, KLA. This highlights the remarkable depth of talent emerging from the next generation and the strength of STEM education within the South Wales region.

STEM Racing, formerly known as F1 in School, is a unique educational programme designed to inspire students through practical application. Participants work in teams to design, manufacture, and race miniature Formula 1 cars, mirroring the processes used by professional engineering organisations. From CAD design and aerodynamic testing to branding, presentation, and team strategy, students gain a holistic understanding of what it takes to succeed in a competitive engineering environment.

Teams are evaluated across multiple disciplines, including car performance, engineering quality, design innovation, verbal presentation, and even their pit display. This multifaceted approach ensures that students develop technical expertise alongside critical soft skills such as communication, project management, and teamwork. Competitions like these provide a platform for young people to explore STEM pathways and build confidence in their abilities.

Congratulations once again to Team STEALTH on their fantastic achievements!
