About Compound Semiconductor Centre

The Compound Semiconductor Centre (CSC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of IQE focused on the commercialisation of UK research undertaken in Compound Semiconductor (CS) materials and devices. Founded in 2015, originally as a Joint Venture between IQE plc and Cardiff University, CSC provides a complete capability chain from R+D to large-scale manufacturing via delivery models such as:
- Collaborative research and innovation services based on the development of novel CS materials and structures.
- Commercial supply of ‘early-stage’ CS epitaxial materials and structures based on GaAs (Gallium Arsenide), InP (Indium Phoshide) and GaN (Gallium Nitride) material systems.
CSC has a particular focus in the areas of:
- High performance photonic components for telecoms and datacoms applications.
- Structures for advanced RF and Power electronics.
- Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) technology for novel applications in quantum, telecoms, consumer electronics and high value add manufacuting.
In collaboration with the Institute of Compound Semiconductors (ICS) at Cardiff University and the Centre for Integrative Semiconductor Materials (CISM) at Swansea University, the offering can be extended to include prototyping of novel CS device technology and access to device characterisation facilities and expertise. CSC provides a direct and efficient route to scale-up to volume manufacturing of novel CS epitaxial solutions via the global manufacturing facilities of its parent company IQE Plc.
