Hazel Hung Joins CSconnected as Business Development Manager

20th November 2024

CSconnected Ltd is delighted to announce the appointment of Hazel Hung as its Business Development Manager. Hazel joined CSconnected in July 2024, bringing with her extensive expertise and a proven track record of fostering growth within the photonics and semiconductor sectors.

Previously, Hazel served as the Programme Manager for the CSconnected Strength in Places Fund (SIPF) project, funded by UKRI at Cardiff University, where she successfully coordinated a £43 million initiative to strengthen South Wales' Compound Semiconductor Cluster.

Hazel holds a Master’s degree in physics from Imperial College, London, and a PhD in non-linear laser optics from the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton. With over 15 years of experience in R&D, sales, and business development, she has played key roles in both academia and industry. Notably, Hazel was instrumental in the growth of Covesion Ltd from a start-up to a key quantum technologies manufacturer. Since relocating to Wales in 2015, she has driven collaboration between industry and academia through her leadership of the Centre for Photonics Expertise.

Howard Rupprecht, Director of CSconnected Ltd, commented:

We are thrilled to welcome Hazel to the team. Her wealth of experience in business development and her deep understanding of the compound semiconductor and photonics sectors will be a tremendous asset. Hazel’s ability to foster collaborations and identify growth opportunities will be pivotal in supporting the continued success and expansion of the South Wales Compound Semiconductor Cluster."

Hazel Hung shared her enthusiasm for the role, stating:

I’m excited to join CSconnected at such an important time for the South Wales Cluster. My focus will be on unlocking supply chain opportunities and harnessing the strength of regional, national, and global partnerships to further drive innovation and growth for the cluster. The potential for this sector is vast, and I look forward to contributing to its continued success."

CSconnected represents the world’s first compound semiconductor cluster, headquartered in South Wales, and brings together industry, academia, and government to establish a globally competitive ecosystem. Hazel’s appointment marks an exciting step forward in strengthening this collaboration and seizing new opportunities for growth in the compound semiconductor sector.
