CSconnected Brings STEM to Life
06th May 2025
A new outreach programme that will inspire young people across South Wales to pursue semiconductor careers has been launched by CSconnected and partners. Made possible with funding from the Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) and the Strength in Places Fund (SIPF), the 'Sparking STEM Futures' initiative has been designed for both primary and secondary schools, aimed at students aged 7–11 and 12–18 respectively.
CSconnected is proud to have partnered with EESW, Iungo Solutions, Techniquest, UKESF and Oriel Science for the delivery of this engaging initiative. The activities for the students range from workshops, competitions, STEM clubs, and public engagement events, providing the young minds of today with an insight into the semiconductor industry and allowing them to see the link between their education and real careers.
“South Wales is already home to a world-leading compound semiconductor cluster, but its long-term success depends on the talent we grow today. The Sparking STEM Futures initiative is our commitment to young people—showing them that the chips powering satellites, smartphones and net-zero technologies can be designed and made right here in Wales. By giving pupils first-hand, project-based experiences and clear pathways into apprenticeships, degrees and graduate roles, we’re not only widening horizons; we’re building a resilient local skills pipeline that will keep high-value jobs and innovation in our communities for decades to come.” Brandon Jones, CSconnected Skills Manager
This programme is part of CSconnected’s broader mission to meet the growing demand for skilled workers in the semiconductor industry, which has seen significant growth in recent years. This initiative not only aims to inspire young people, but also equip them with the practical skills and knowledge needed to thrive in an increasingly tech-driven world.
